Taking part in a Committee Meeting
How to have your say at Council Committee Meetings
Councillors make many decisions about your local area. Pendle Council is keen for you to have your say on issues which concern you. It is one of the first councils in the country where members of the public have the right to do this.
You can make your views known by speaking at committee meetings.
First, find out when and where the meeting will take place. You can do this by looking at the Committee Timetable page. You can also:
- telephone committee services on 01282 661643/661648
- look at agendas displayed at Council offices
If the issue appears on the agenda, tell Committee Services that you wish to speak.
- Please contact them in writing or by telephone by 12 noon at the latest on the day of the meeting
If you are unable to do this, the chairman may still allow you to speak unless the item is a planning matter.
- Committee Services will take your details and confirm when and where the meeting will take place
- If you wish, Committee Services can let you have a copy of the committee report to help you prepare what you want to say
Public Question Time at Area Committee Meetings
If something is not on the agenda you can, at Area Committee meetings, raise it at the start of the meeting under Public Question Time. You should turn up at 7 p.m. and the Chairman will invite people, in turn, to put their questions. You should start by stating your name and address and put your question as clearly as possible. If an answer can be given straight away it will. Otherwise you may receive a reply in writing after the meeting or the Committee may request that a report comes to a future meeting. This will be explained to you.
