Q: Do I need a licence for breeding animals?

Answer:

In many cases, yes. This will depend on the type of animal. 

 You need a licence for:

  • breeding dogs, subject to certain exemptions
  • exotic/wild animals, depending on the species in question
  • keeping horses, if they are used for commercial riding (e.g. providing lessons)
  • running a pet shop
  • running a zoo
You don't need a licence for:
  • breeding cats
