Frequently Asked Questions
Q: Can you do anything about low water pressure?
If your property is on a private water supply and the pressure is low, this is often a problem of pipes being blocked or silted. In this instance you should arrange for a competent contractor to carry out an inspection of your water supply system.
If your complaint refers to mains water you should contact the supplier in the first instance (either United Utilities or Yorkshire Water). If you do not receive a satisfactory response please advise the Environmental Health Service and we will liaise with the water company to seek a solution.
In older properties, low water pressure is often caused by common supply pipes. The Council's Environmental Health Service offers limited grant assistance to convert these to separate water supplies.
