Barnoldswick Gala Weekend
Date: 11th Sep 10 - 12th Sep 10
Location: Victory Park
Cost: Free
Barnoldswick Gala will this year feature skirmishes, cannon fire and musketry when hundreds of Sealed Knot Civil War re-enactors descend on the town.
Battling to the beat of the drum, participants will fight two ninety minute pitched battles at Victory Park with cannons, musketeers and pike men replacing footballers, cricketers and rugby players for the weekend. And spectators will experience a slice of 17th century history in a soldier's encampment with a gunpowder making magister, authentic cooking fires, armourers and even an army accountant.
Besides Sealed Knot battles, the event will feature a live music marquee with top bands playing during the weekend. Other activities include a tug of war competition, a park procession with 'person power' carnival carts which can be pushed, pulled or pedalled by a single person, charity stalls, Marshall Waddington fun fair, duck race and much more.
The event is being organised by Barnoldswick Town Council with support from Pendle Council. It's hoped the weekend will mark the revival of Barnoldswick's famous Gala which attracted thousands of people in its heyday.
Organisers are asking potential entrants for the tug of war competition to register for the event and also for carnival cart creators and those wanting to run charity stalls to get in touch by emailing david.whipp@dsl.pipex.com or phoning 01281 666777.
