Had Enough? We're Getting Tough!

We've had enough of people dropping litter, letting their dogs foul, and doing graffiti - and we're getting tough on them.

That's the message from Pendle Council in this year's Cleaner Greener Safer high impact publicity campaign.

Coun John David, Executive Member for the Environment, says, "We know that local people have had enough of the minority of people who don't do their bit to keep Pendle clean and tidy, and we couldn't agree with them more.

"We are really determined to keep Pendle cleaner, greener and safer for everyone who lives here. "

Through this year's campaign, we're reminding people that they can get fined for things like dropping cigarette ends, dumping rubbish (also called fly tipping), and writing graffiti."

The Council has plenty of staff working all over Pendle who can give fixed penalty notices to people who do these things. Fines start at £50. If you get taken to court for fly tipping, the fine could go up to £50,000.

The publicity campaign uses billboards, bus shelter posters and newspaper advertising to get across the Cleaner Greener Safer message.

Coun David adds, "We're also encouraging Pendle people, through this campaign, to get involved and take part in helping to make their towns and villages cleaner, greener and safer places to live.

"You can report things like rubbish dumped at the side of the road, or someone you see throwing litter from their car to the Council and we'll do something about it."

A Cleaner Greener Safer roadshow has been touring local supermarkets and shopping centres where Council staff talk to local people to spread the Cleaner Greener Safer message.
