Waving goodbye to the blue bags!

This week's recycling blog comes from Councillor John David, Leader of Pendle Council

I can tell you I won't be feeling blue this week - now that I've put out my last blue bag for the final time.

Councillor David with one of the old blue plastic sacksAnd I'm not the only one who'll be happy to wave goodbye to the blue bags. Lots of you have complained about blue bags blowing around making Pendle look untidy on recycling days.

The problem was that the plastic bottles they contained simply weren't heavy enough to keep them in one place. In our hillside villages like Blacko it's been a real issue on windy days.

We've been listening to local people and waiting to get a chance to do away with the blue bags. Now that there's a new system which can sort the rubbish out mechanically we've been able to make big improvements to our recycling service.

The new brown bins have sorted the problem out.You can put plastic bottles, cans, glass jars and bottles into the brown bin together. You can even put aerosols in the brown bin - but take their lids off first.

Please don't use plastic bags though.  Just chuck them all in together and the new machines will do the work!

There's more space in the brown bins too, which means you can recycle more and simply wheel your bin out when it's full.

By 2015 we have to recycle 56% - that's over half our waste.  I know with your help and the new brown bins we can do it!

John david may be feeling joyfull but residents werent be in Bradley ward when the council starts to dump its food waste at Fleet st, No gimmicks, no targets and no amount of PR can win hearts and mind , when you play with peoples lifes like pendle councils doing, you think you will get folk to recycle and compromise their health, from vermin- foul smells- traffic-.. we had all this last year as the council then tried to build a waste station at fleet st. Only difference now is your doing it through loophole and back door, in a sneaky - and underhand way. No wonder people dont trust this council for delevering good services. Leave a good legacy and do a decent job an we will all recycle. keep the food waste collection out of Fleet st- Nelson. and live to the council slogan Putting people first.

Around 18 months ago the council was forced to stop there proposed waste transfer station on fleet street nelson by the bradley residents however despite our efforfs the sneaky council is introducing food waste recyling to fleet street this is going to cause to foul smells, excessive traffic and nasty vermin. i encourage recyling but in an industrial area were it belongs. the residents of bradley have again been duped by misleading information. the council has been doing roadshows to raise awareness of recyling were residents can raise their concerns, but venues of the roadshows are not publicised on thier website how creative is that. When will they listen to the residents who want to live clean safe enviroment like everybody else. The decisions makers do not live in bradley.

As a town councillor i feel that the borough councillors have failed to counsult with the Town council of Nelson. This very delicate matter that hits home with every resident of bradley should have been consulted in full with the town council.
