Beacon Councils provide opportunities for all in local government to learn from each other to set the pace of change.
In March 2006 Pendle was awarded the prestigious Beacon Status award for its Public Private Partnership with Liberata.
The Judging Panel described Pendle's successful application as 'an outstanding example of a public private partnership'. It celebrated:
- how the objectives of the Council's strategic plan informed the objectives set for the partnership, which in turn led to the specific targets embedded in the contract
- the Council's 'excellent' procurement process which made very cost effective use of external professional support, particularly relating to legal and negotiating advice
- the detailed involvement of staff throughout the procurement process and the implementation of the partnership.
