Fire alarms
The Lancashire Fire and Rescue Service carry out free home fire safety checks and will provide and install FREE 10-year smoke alarms where necessary. They will provide practical advice on identifying fire hazards in the home and show you how to make a fire escape plan for you and your family.
Smoke and carbom monoxide alarms are simple to install. They are widely available from DIY, hardware and electrical shops and some supermarkets. Choose an alarm which meets British Standard BS5446 Part 1 and carries the Kitemark. Further advice on purchasing and fitting smoke alarms can be found at DirectGov (external link). They also provide advice on planning escape routes.
