High hedges
The Council has powers to deal with problems of high hedges. Provided you have tried and exhausted all other avenues for resolving your hedge dispute, you will be able to apply to the Council to resolve the matter (for which a fee will be payable).
The law only applies to domestic dwellings which are affected by hedges on another persons land and which are composed of a line of two or more evergreen or semi-evergreen trees or shrubs which are more than two metres high. It does not apply to single trees or to any tree or shrub that loses its leaves in winter.
Both the Government and Pendle Council provide guidance on how you can agree a solution about problem high hedges, including the new legislation which allows local authorities to consider complaints under the Anti-social Behaviour Act 2003. Also how to assess light restriction.
