Roads and highways - bridges

Lancashire County Council is responsible for any highway bridges and footbridges it owns. These bridges should be inspected regularly and a programme of maintenance work drawn up to ensure their safety. If you have noticed that a bridge has been recently damaged, eg parapets, railings or safety fences, please tell them about it immediately.

Banners

Lancashire County Council does not permit the attachment of banners to bridge structures as it may contribute to a road traffic accident if a driver attempts to read and assimilate the message. If you wish to report a banner attached to a bridge, please contact Lancashire County Council's Customer Service Centre on 0845 053 0011 with the exact location of the bridge, the road name and/or number in order that they can arrange for it to be removed.

Bridge Strengthening

Work carried out by Lancashire County Council under the strengthening programme gives priority to principal road bridges. For substandard bridges on the non-principal road network, decisions are made whether to permanently weight restrict rather than strengthen.

For further information, please see Lancashire County Council's website or telephone the Customer Service Centre on 0845 053 0011.
