Road markings and signage - speed humps

Morning rush hourRequests for traffic calming schemes or other improvement schemes are generally introduced in areas or on roads where they have the potential to reduce accidents.  Speed humps are typically constructed in residential roads and in areas where there may be a large amount of pedestrian traffic (such as near school entrances).

Lancashire County Council, as highway authority, has overall responsibility for introducing these schemes, but many are carried out by Pendle Council's Engineering and Special Projects section on behalf of the County Council through a Street Services Agreement.
