Licence - street collection

Charity collection boxStreet Collection

Permission must be granted by the local authority before a street collection can take place. Application should be made to the local authority with sufficent  notice prior to the date on which the collection is due to take place. This  requirement applies to all organisations that collect from a street or a public  highway.

Street Collections are covered by Section 5 of the Police, Factories, etc (Miscellaneous Provisions) Act 1916,

House to House Collection

Raising money for charity by collecting from house to house requires a permit obtainable from the Licensing Department free of charge. These permits are also required when collecting money from pub to pub. Permits are often issued on a weekly basis and there is no restriction on the number of collections taking place at any one time

Licences are issued in accordance with the House to House Collections Act 1939 and House to House Regulations 1947.


Accessibility

Applications should be made not later than one month before the date of the collection. The completed application form should be returned to the Town Hall, Market Street, Nelson, BB9 7LG. All sections of the form must be completed, particularly the name and address of the accountant. Only one collection can be held in a specific area on a given date.
