Building Conservation and Conservation Areas

There are more than 300 buildings in Pendle that the Secretary of State has considered to be of special architectural or historic interest. These are "Listed Buildings" and are subject to strict controls. It is an offence to alter, extend or demolish a listed building without consent.

There are currently 24 Conservation Areas in Pendle (as of December 2005) with architectural or historic interest.

Alterations to Properties in Conservation Areas

The local authority provide advice and consultation to local residents who are considering carrying out any works on property within a conservation area.
