Licence - riding establishment

Horses being ridden on a bridle pathIn order to provide riding lessons or hire out horses for payment, a licence is required under the Riding Establishments Acts 1964 and 1970.

Licenses are issued by the local authority and are subject to a satisfactory vets inspection.

An annual fee is payable and the person making the application must be over eighteen.

The local authority may impose additional conditions before issuing a licence. Veterinary surgeons, police forces and zoos are exempt from having to apply for this licence.
