Trees and woodland in Pendle can be found on both public and private land.

Those on public land could be owned by Pendle Borough Council or Lancashire County Council.

Pendle Borough Council has its own professional tree maintenance team who undertake work to trees on its own property, such as in Parks, recreation grounds, housing estates and along highways.

Pendle Borough Council also owns a significant area of woodland in a variety of locations.

Tree preservation orders

Tree Preservation Orders prohibit the cutting down, uprooting, topping, lopping, wilful damage or wilful destruction of trees without the local authorities consent.

If a tree is protected by a Tree Preservation Order, or it is in a Conservation Area, an application in writing (no fee) is necessary for consent to do work to it.
