Giving blood

Do something amazing today - save a life, give blood!

Every day new medical treatments are being developed and more operations are being carried out. So the National Blood Service constantly needs donations for these vital procedures - about 2.1 million a year.

To give blood you must:

  • be generally in good health
  • be aged 17 to 65 (if it's your first time)
  • weigh at least 7st 12Ib

Giving Blood is much quicker and easier than you think, and you can register online.

  • Call 0300 123 23 23, or go to the NHS National Blood Service website to find out if you can give blood, search for your nearest blood donor session and book an appointment online.

You can also find out about donating platelets, bone marrow, organs and tissue.
