Consumer and Business Advice

Lancashire County Council Trading Standards are there to protect the interests of both consumers and businesses. They can provide advice before you shop - for example, if you are considering buying a second-hand car, using the services of a builder or booking a holiday. And they can provide advice if you are having problems with something you have already bought or a service you have received.

Consumer advice and information in Lancashire is provided in partnership with Consumer Direct NorthWest (external link). You can also get advice from the Citizen's Advice Bureau (external link).

Weights and Measures

Trading Standards officers inspect weighing and measuring equipment in all retail, wholesale and manufacturing premises in Lancashire where goods are sold by weight or measure. The equipment inspected ranges from small pharmacist's weighing scales to weighbridges, petrol pumps and spirit measures or 'optics' in pubs and restaurants. All this equipment has to be accurate within strict tolerances, to ensure that the purchaser gets what they pay for.

Food Standards, Under-age Sales and Doorstep Crime

Trading standards can also provide warnings and information about doorstep crime, food standards and under-age sales (external links).
